Janarious Mykel Wheeler[1] (born August 3, 1994)[2], known professionally as Lil Poppa, is an American rapper and crooner from Jacksonville, Florida who is signed to Collective Music Group, a record label founded by rapper Yo Gotti. Poppa is known for his debut studio album Blessed, I Guess (2021), which peaked at number 160 on the Billboard 200.[3] His mixtape Under Investigation 3 (2022) also charted on the Billboard 200, reaching number 194.[4]
Career
In 2018, Poppa started gaining traction with the release of his singles "Nightmare on Elm Street" and "Purple Hearts".[2][5] Also in 2018, he released his mixtape Under Investigation with appearances from YFN Lucci and Yungeen Ace.[5][2] In 2019, he signed to Interscope Records and released the singles "Man of the Year" and "Dangerous".[2] Also in 2019, he released his mixtape Under Investigation 2, the sequel to Under Investigation.[6] It contained the single "Eternal Living" featuring Polo G.[5] In May 2020, he released his full-length mixtape Evergreen Wildchild 2.[2] In 2021, he released his debut studio album Blessed, I Guess with its lead single "A.M. Flights" featuring Toosii and an appearance from Seddy Hendrinx.[7][8] Blessed, I Guess debuted at number 160 on the Billboard 200.[3] In April 2022, he signed to Yo Gotti's label Collective Music Group.[1] and together released the single "H Spot".[8] Also in April 2022, he released his mixtape Under Investigation 3, the second sequel to Under Investigation. Its featured guests include Yo Gotti, Lil Duval, and Jdot Breezy.[2][6] The mixtape peaked at number 194 on the Billboard 200.[4] In June 2022, Poppa released the song “Big League” alongside Yo Gotti, Moneybagg Yo, and Mozzy.[9]
