Lexington Medical is a privately held U.S. medical device company headquartered in Massachusetts that designs and manufactures surgical stapler devices intended for minimally invasive surgery.
Company History
Lexington Medical, Inc. was founded in 2013[1] by Leon Amariglio. In 2017, it received U.S. FDA 510(k) clearance for the AEON Endoscopic Stapler.[2] In 2021, Medical Product Outsourcing reported on the AEON stapler reaching its 10,000-surgery milestone, noting its clinical use in laparoscopic procedures.[3] In 2024, GlobalData reported sustained revenue growth from 2017-2023, supporting Lexington Medical's market presence in surgical stapling.[4] In 2024, the company received FDA clearance for the AEON Endoscopic Powered Stapler[5] as reported by Modern Healthcare which highlighted it among notable device clearances of the year.[6]
In April 2025, Lexington Medical secured a strategic growth investment from Ampersand Capital Partners, a private equity firm specializing in healthcare and life sciences.[7] In late 2025, Lexington Medical was awarded a $195,000 tax incentive from the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center to support the creation of new jobs at its headquarters.[8]
Clinical Use
AEON surgical staplers are intended to staple and cut tissue for resection, transection, and creation of anastomosis. Clinical performance has been evaluated in peer-reviewed studies examining intra and post-operative outcomes.[9][10][11] A first-in-man trial evaluating the AEON Powered Stapling System was presented in the British Journal of Surgery in 2024. The study assessed device safety, firing mechanism performance, and initial clinical outcomes, contributing to the body of evidence supporting AEON’s surgical utility.[12] In March 2025, the journal Innovations in Hepatopancreatobiliary Surgery published a detailed review of the AEON endovascular stapler alongside the LOTUS‑Bowa liver blade. The review highlighted AEON’s innovative design and reported outcomes, including a reduction in postoperative pancreatic fistula from 65% to 20% during distal pancreatectomy, along with enhanced staple-line hemostasis in comparison to Medtronic’s Endo GIA device.[13]
