Lewis Moberly is an independent brand design consultancy based in London, England. Founded in 1984 by Mary Lewis and Robert Moberly, the agency works in brand identity, packaging design, and visual communications. The firm has produced work for consumer goods, retail, and cultural organisations in the United Kingdom and internationally.[1][2]
History
The consultancy was established on 18 May 1984 by Mary Lewis and Robert Moberly.[3] Early work included packaging and corporate identity projects, and the agency developed the brand identity for Duchy Originals, a food company founded by the Prince of Wales, in 1992.[3] Over the following decade, Lewis Moberly worked with clients such as Asda and Vinopolis, with projects covered in Design Week[4] and The Guardian.[5]
In the 2000s, the agency created designs for brands including Tefal[1] and Cafédirect.[2] In 2015, the consultancy contributed to the Design Museum’s exhibition 50 Years of British Road Signs.[6]
Recognition
Design Week[4] and Campaign[7] have reported on the firm’s awarded packaging projects. In 2023, an industry profile noted that Lewis Moberly was the only consultancy to have received both the D&AD Design Excellence Award and the DBA Design Effectiveness Award.[8]
Mary Lewis
Mary Lewis is a British designer and co-founder of Lewis Moberly. In 1995 she became the first woman to serve as president of D&AD[9]
Awards and Honours
Lewis has received the D&AD President’s Award, a Black Pencil, and multiple D&AD Silver Awards, as well as the DBA Grand Prix.[9] She has been profiled in The Times, which described her approach to nurturing creativity and leadership in design.[10]
Industry Roles
Lewis has chaired design competitions including the BBC Graphic Design Awards and the Scottish Design Awards and has held advisory positions with Marks & Spencer and the Royal Mail.[4]
