Lee Joo-sung (born 1978) is a South Korean businessman. He is the President and CEO of Seah Steel Holdings, a large Korean steel conglomerate, since January 2022.[1][2]
Biography
Early life and education
Lee Joo-sung was born in 1978, in Seoul. He is son of the current SeAH Group chairman Lee Soon-hyung and grandson of the corporation's founder Lee Jong-deok. This makes him a third-generation descendant of the Conglomerate (company), together with his cousin Lee Tae-sung (businessman).[3][4] He graduated from high school in Switzerland and moved to the United States to study in the University of Chicago, where he majored in Economics and East Asian Languages & Civilizations in 2001. He also received an MBA from Columbia University in 2011.[5]
Career
Lee started working as a business analyst for different companies before joining the family business in 2008. He became COO at SeAH Steel at the age of 35, five years after joining the company.[3]
When SeAH Steel Corp. demerged into two separate entities in 2018, he took a leading role as Senior Executive Vice President in the manufacturing entity.[6] He owns 21,63% stake in SeAH Steel Holdings and 17,95% stake in Seah Holdings|SeAH Holdings, the group's investment entity headed by his cousin.[7][8] This management system is also known as "Cousin Management".[9]
In the present, Lee is actively diversifying the company activities by investing in the renewable energy market to respond to the protectionism spreading in the steel sector. After creating the UK-based subsidiary SeAH Wind, he started negotiations with the British government to construct the world's biggest offshore wind power facility.[5][10][11]
On January 2022, Lee was promoted to President and CEO of SeAH Steel Holdings.[12]
