LayerZero Power Systems is an American designer and manufacturer of power distribution products.[1] The company was founded in 2001 and is headquartered in Aurora, Ohio.[2][3]

History

LayerZero Power Systems (LayerZero) was founded in 2001 by a team of engineers. The company's mission is to create reliable power distribution products. The company initially established its operations in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and formed a manufacturing alliance with Russelectric, a reputable company in the power distribution industry. This partnership allowed LayerZero to leverage Russelectric's expertise and resources to enhance its manufacturing capabilities and expand its product offerings.[4]

In 2012, LayerZero made a strategic decision to relocate its operations and establish its corporate headquarters in Aurora, Ohio. This move was aimed at facilitating future growth and taking advantage of Aurora's favorable business environment, skilled labor pool, and proximity to key markets and industry partners.[5][6]

Products

LayerZero Power Systems develops and manufactures products designed to minimize power disruptions and enhance the performance and reliability of critical technology systems. Their product line includes:

Static Transfer Switches: LayerZero's static transfer switches ensure the continuous operation of critical systems by rapidly switching power sources in the event of a disruption. These switches can perform this transfer in milliseconds, mitigating the impact of power outages on sensitive equipment.[7]

Power Distribution Units (PDUs): The company's PDUs are not only responsible for distributing power but also feature advanced technology for managing and monitoring the distribution process. This helps to optimize power usage and improve overall system efficiency.[8]

Remote Power Panels: LayerZero's remote power panels enable remote management of power systems, providing flexibility and control for power management in data centers and other technology-intensive environments.[9]

Grid Isolation Systems: These systems comprise switches designed to isolate specific sections of an electrical grid. This prevents disruptions or faults from spreading throughout the grid, thereby ensuring the integrity of the overall power system.[10]

Monitoring Systems: Beyond power distribution hardware, LayerZero also provides monitoring systems that measure and record voltage, current, power, and energy usage. These systems help to maintain the health and efficiency of power infrastructures by enabling real-time tracking and analysis.

LayerZero Power Systems has also developed technologies in the field of Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR). A research paper published in MDPI Electronics highlights LayerZero's advancements in TMR technologies and their application in power distribution systems.[11]

Customer Base

LayerZero Power Systems serves a diverse range of industries, including technology, financial services, government, education, energy, healthcare, manufacturing, retail, and telecommunications.

Trademark Infringement Lawsuit

In 2011, LayerZero Power Systems initiated a trademark infringement lawsuit against Ortronics. The case, which was adjudicated by the USPTO Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), concluded with a ruling in favor of LayerZero. The TTAB determined that Ortronics had not utilized the "LayerZero" trademark in commerce prior to LayerZero's filing of the trademark application. Moreover, the TTAB found that Ortronics' use of the trademark was likely to cause confusion among consumers. The cancellation of Ortronics' trademarks "Layer Zero" (serial number 77580392) and "Layer 0" (serial number 77580391) was confirmed by the TTAB's decision.[12]
