In 2011, LayerZero Power Systems initiated a trademark infringement lawsuit against Ortronics. The case, which was adjudicated by the USPTO Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB), concluded with a ruling in favor of LayerZero. The TTAB determined that Ortronics had not utilized the "LayerZero" trademark in commerce prior to LayerZero's filing of the trademark application. Moreover, the TTAB found that Ortronics' use of the trademark was likely to cause confusion among consumers. The cancellation of Ortronics' trademarks "Layer Zero" (serial number 77580392) and "Layer 0" (serial number 77580391) was confirmed by the TTAB's decision.[12]
