Lawrence William Hunt (born 19 March 1966) is a British entrepreneur, who was the founder and former chief executive officer of Silverjet Aviation Limited, a business-class airline that operated between 2006 and 2008. Following Silverjet, Hunt has held roles in travel, marketing technology, artificial intelligence, and sustainable businesses.
Early life and career
Hunt started his career in the technology industry during the 1980s. At Novell, a US-based software company, he worked as a distribution and product manager. He later joined BMS, a technology consulting firm that Capgemini bought in 1992. Hunt held senior marketing roles at Database Management Sciences Limited, which was sold to IBM in 1993.[1]
In 2003, Hunt sold his travel technology company Rapid Travel Solutions to Telewest in 2003. The following year, he founded lowcosttravelgroup.com, an online travel agency also known as Lowcostholidays, where he became a non-executive director until the company went into administration in July 2016.[2]
Silverjet
Hunt started Silverjet in 2004, basing the airline at London Luton Airport. The airline flew business-class passengers, operating Boeing 767 aircraft fitted with 100 seats on long-haul flights to Newark Liberty International Airport and Dubai International Airport.[3][4]
Silverjet offered a single-class, flat-rate fare structure aimed at business travellers, and participated in carbon neutrality offset programs.[4][5][3][6]
The airline reported strong passenger load factors and received positive trade coverage. It ceased operations in May 2008, citing financial difficulties linked to reduced investor funding during the global economic downturn.[7][1]
Later ventures and investments
After Silverjet closed, Hunt continued working with lowcosttravelgroup, which expanded to additional countries between 2011-2013 before entering administration 2016. He served as a shareholder and advisor to Loveholidays, an online travel company, from 2012 and 2016.[8] In 2014, Hunt became chairman of Deallus Holdings, a life sciences and competitive intelligence consultancy. Archimed S.A, a French private equity firm, bought Deallus Holdings in 2015.[9] In 2016, Hunt acquired addmustard, a brand, marketing, and technology agency, where he currently serves as chairman and managing director.[10] In 2019, Hunt co-founded Marker AI, a company focusing on artificial intelligence software for client onboarding and compliance.[11] In 2022, Hunt invested in Sokito, a British football manufacturer using recycled and bio-based materials.[12][13][14]
Public image
Hunt's business activities have been the subject of coverage in national and trade publications, particularly in connection with the launch and closure of Silverjet and Lowcostholidays.[7][15][16]
He has contributed to discussions related to marketing in the travel sector, and has provided evidence to UK parliamentary committees on air transport policy.[17][18]
