Laurie Louis Joseph LeBlanc (born July 19, 1968) is a Canadian Country music Singer-songwriter. He is well known for penning many of his own songs and blending traditional country music with mainstream country-pop sounds. Since the beginning of his solo career in 2010, LeBlanc has recorded 7 studio albums (La Pitoune, Noir et Blanc, Influences, Noël de la Pitoune, 20, Couleurs, and When It’s Right It’s Right).

Laurie’s music has earned him many industry accolades, including awards and nominations from SOCAN, East Coast Music Association|East Coast Music Awards, Music NB Awards, Josie Music Awards, Gala Country, ADISQ, Gala Trille Or and The Akademia.

Early Life

Laurie LeBlanc was born in the small village of Shemogue, New Brunswick, NB, Canada, where his father Ola was born and raised (1938-2015). The only child of Ola and Simonne (Collette) attended Donat-Robichaud School until 5th grade. At age 10, the Acadians family hauled their home from Shemogue, New Brunswick, NB to Bouctouche, NB, where Laurie’s mother was born and raised.

From 1980 to 1982, LeBlanc attended Blanche-Bourgeois Elementary School in Cocagne, New Brunswick, NB. He then graduated from Clément Cormier High School in 1987, from which he would receive a prestigious award 35 years later, “Prix Excellence Père Clément-Cormier.” After receiving his high school diploma, Laurie worked a few months at his uncle’s Auto Body Shop nearby. Then, in 1988, LeBlanc moved to Bathurst, NB, to study at the New Brunswick Community College, where he received his Engineering technician|Engineering Technician diploma in 1990. The shy teenage boy remembers singing to Randy Travis, Alan Jackson and George Strait|George Strait’s cassette tapes while driving his dad’s Toyota Corolla. In his early twenties, Laurie taught himself to play the guitar he had borrowed from his aunt. That same year, he received his first guitar and microphone as a Christmas gift from his wife Jeannette (girlfriend at the time). On July 22, 1995, Laurie sang publicly for the first time at his sister-in-law’s outdoor wedding, Bertha and Mario LeBlanc. He was accompanied by a few musicians and his brother-in-law Pierre LeBlanc who encouraged him to sing. While Laurie sang the night away, one of the guests asked if they would play at a wedding anniversary the following Saturday. Without hesitation, they all accepted. A week later, Laurie received 20$ for his first paying gig. This encouraged him to start his first band, “Interstate” with his brother-in-law Pierre on electric guitar, Joe Mills, Jean Nowlan and Rhéal LeBlanc. The band covered the top 90s country songs and played local pubs, weddings and festivals. In 1998, Laurie wrote his first song, “Emma” in loving memory of his paternal grandmother Emma LeBlanc who had just passed away. The song grabbed second place at the musical contest “La relève musicale” in Richibucto|Richibucto, NB.

In August 1999, Laurie attended the First Acadian World Congress|World Acadian Congress in Moncton, NB, where French Acadians|Acadian Artists around the globe were performing. He was inspired by the local Acadians|Acadian band 1755 and Louisiana artists Bruce Daigrepont and Zachary Richard. Being a proud Acadians|Acadian, he was inspired to sing in French; and that same year, he founded his second band, “Zarico.” The members included Paul LeBlanc, Luc LeBlanc, Serge LeBlanc/Claude Hébert, Serge Hébert/Rémi Comeau, and Ron Arsenault/Denise Daigle Bourgeois. The popular group toured mainly the The Maritimes|Maritimes and Quebec. In 2006, they were invited to play at the Country Rocks the Hill Concert in Moncton|Moncton, NB opening for LeBlanc’s biggest musical influence Alan Jackson, along with Brooks & Dunn|Brooks and Dunn, Sugarland, George Canyon, among others. Backstage, the Acadians|Acadian cowboy watched his idol perform in front of 40,000 screaming country fans. From 1999 to 2009, Zarico released two Album#Studio|studio albums, “Au Cabaret” (2002) and “On Tyme tout l’temps” (2005).

Music Career

2010: La Pitoune

Shortly after the breakup of his group Zarico, Laurie recorded three original songs. Then, on October 30, 2009, he released his first single, La Pitoune, which was an instant hit on the local French radio station CJSE-FM|CJSE, reaching the top of the charts for seven consecutive weeks. Motivated by the success, Laurie recorded his first Album#Studio|studio album as a solo artist. George Belliveau produced the album, which included five of Laurie’s compositions at the Studio Belivo in Beaubassin East, New Brunswick|Barachois, NB. The album La Pitoune was released on April 10, 2010, with two sold-out shows at Le Pays de la Sagouine in Bouctouche|Bouctouche, NB. Consisting of real-life stories, the album is a blend of Traditional Country, Folk and Cajun music.

With the success of Laurie’s first album, the Acadians|Acadian Singer-songwriter|Singer-Songwriter and his wife Jeannette decided to launch their production company, “Les Productions Laurie LeBlanc inc.” Both self-employed at the time; Laurie had his drafting and design company since 2007, while Jeannette had a bookkeeping business since 2000. As the workload grew on the music side, Laurie was grateful when Jeannette agreed to manage his musical career. Quebec audiences and Quebec artists welcomed Laurie with open arms as he performed at different Country music festivals in the French province. His first performance at the Festival Western Saint-Tite was on the “Scene Boomer” promotional stage for new artists. After his first gig at the second-biggest country festival in Canada, Laurie became a regular and was invited to perform almost every year.

2012: Noir et Blanc

On April 7, 2012, LeBlanc released his 2nd studio album Noir et Blanc at the Capitol Theatre (Moncton)|Capitol Theatre in Moncton|Moncton, NB. Recorded at Studio Belivo and produced by George Belliveau, the album consisted of LeBlanc’s past experiences. Seven out of eleven songs were written by LeBlanc, bringing this record closer to 90s country music.

2013: Influences

In 2013, Laurie realized one of his lifelong dreams and headed to Nashville, Tennessee|Nashville, TN, to record his third studio album produced by Grammy Award winner Zach Allen. Recorded at the “The Tracking Room” by some of the best musicians in the music city, Influences was released on May 4, 2013, in front of a Sold Out crowd at “Le Pays de la Sagouine” in Bouctouche|Bouctouche, NB. LeBlanc wrote his first English song, Stop Dreaming My Dear, which was included in this cover album consisting of songs from Laurie’s biggest influences such as Alan Jackson, George Strait, George Jones, Brooks & Dunn, Conway Twitty, Randy Travis, Bryan Adams.

2014: Noël de la Pitoune

On November 15, 2014, LeBlanc released his 4th studio album live on air from the radio station CJSE-FM|CJSE in Shediac|Shediac, NB. His first bilingual Christmas album Noël de la Pitoune, was produced by George Belliveau and recorded at Belivo Studio in Beaubassin East, New Brunswick|Barachois, NB. The record consists of traditional French and English Christmas songs, including two originals co-written by the singer and his wife/manager, Jeannette.

Earlier in 2014, Les Productions Laurie LeBlanc produced four multi-artist shows “Opry en Acadie” (Country STAR in 2015) at “Le Pays de la Sagouine.” The team also produced their first Christmas show, “Noël en Acadie,” at the beautiful 1,800-seat theatre The Wesleyan Centre in Moncton|Moncton, NB. Hosted by Laurie and his friend Gilles Gauthier (CJSE-FM|CJSE’s radio morning man), LeBlanc invites guest artists (French and English) to perform at the sold-out theatre.

2015: Album 20

To commemorate 20 years of music, LeBlanc released his fifth studio album 20 on April 11, 2015, at Le Pays de la Sagouine, live-streaming on air on various radios. Produced by George Belliveau and recorded at the Studio Belivo in Beaubassin East, New Brunswick|Barachois, NB, the album featured a bonus DVD that included videos and photos highlighting Laurie’s twenty years in music.

On April 20, 2016, his third single, “Moi itou Mojito,” became the most downloaded French song on ITunes|Itunes Canada after being played on one of Canada’s most listened to radio shows, Puiqu’il faut se lever hosted by Paul Arcand & Emilie Perreault on 98.5 FM in Montreal|Montreal, QC. This event created a powerful media effect throughout the The Maritimes|Maritimes and Quebec, and Laurie was featured in various magazines, including La Semaine, La Presse (Canadian newspaper)|La Presse de Montréal, Échos Vedettes, etc. LeBlanc was named Cultural personality of the Year 2017 by the provincial French daily newspaper L'Acadie Nouvelle|L’Acadie Nouvelle and Cultural Event of the Year 2017 by Téléjournal Acadie - Canadian Broadcasting Corporation|Radio Canada. Laurie was also honoured with the Atlantic Canada Tour at “La Francofête en Acadie.” LeBlanc started to pursue a full-time music career in 2016.

2018: Couleurs

LeBlanc released his 6^th studio album Couleurs on February 2, 2018, at the “Centre des Arts et de la culture” in Dieppe, New Brunswick|Dieppe, NB coinciding with the first show of his Atlantic Canada Tour he won in 2016. Laurie and his wife/manager Jeannette co-wrote all the songs on this album, including their second English song G.O.G.O. (Give One Get One). Produced by George Belliveau and recorded at the “Studio Belivo” in Beaubassin East, New Brunswick|Barachois, NB, the album consisted of inspiring lyrics that blended well with a more contemporary sound. This was his very first album that received an East Coast Music Association|ECMA showcase in Halifax, Nova Scotia|Halifax, NS.

In 2018, Music NB selected Laurie to represent the province of NB at the Canadian Country Music Association|CCMA Spotlight Performance Contest. This was a turning point in launching Laurie’s musical career in the English market. His production company decided to release Laurie’s first original English song G.O.G.O. (Give One Get One). The success of this single on Canadian country radio stations inspired Laurie to translate the song Rêver en Couleurs to Never Stop Dreaming, and both songs were simultaneously released on September 28, 2019, to French and English radio stations.

2020: When It’s Right It’s Right

In March 2019, LeBlanc, who had won a trip to Paris|Paris, France with his Entertainer of the Year Award at the Gala Country, headed to Issoudun|Issoudun, France, to attend and perform at the FFCLD (Fédération Francophone de Country Dance et Line Dance). This was a defining moment in LeBlanc’s career as he met and sang with internationally acclaimed Singer-Songwriter Don Mescall, whose songs were recorded by Rascal Flatts, Neal McCoy, Brett Eldredge, Backstreet Boys and many more great artists. Don Mescall|Mescall eventually pitched a few songs to Laurie, who was already interested in an English record.

The timing was right for his first all-original English album project, When It’s Right It’s Right. Produced by multi-award winner Jason Barry and featuring Dean Brody’s touring band members, the results add up to LeBlanc’s most accomplished record to date and a long-overdue introduction to English country music audiences. On June 6, 2020, Laurie released his 7^th studio album at the Capitol Theatre (Moncton)|Capitol Theatre in Moncton|Moncton, NB. Performing from an empty theatre due to the pandemic restrictions, thousands tuned in to watch the live-streaming event on LeBlanc’s Facebook Page. Don Mescall|Mescall contributed to a half-dozen tracks, including the album title When It’s Right It’s Right. All In is the only song on this record that Laurie and his wife Jeannette co-wrote.

Even though it was difficult to promote the album with the scheduled tour cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic|Covid-19 pandemic, LeBlanc connected with his fan through his newly launched vlog Monday Live with Laurie on his Facebook Page.

Personal life

After a long-lasting friendship, Laurie and Jeannette (Cormier) started dating in 1986. They built their first house in 1993 near Jeannette’s parents and sold it seven years later. They built their second home on the same street in 2000. On May 18, 2001, Laurie married his high school sweetheart in Bouctouche|Bouctouche, NB. Laurie and Jeannette (manager) celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary at the The Algonquin Resort|Alqonquin Resort in St-Andrews-by-the-Sea, NB.

On June 8, 2015, Laurie’s father, Ola, died suddenly at age 76. Ola was always supportive of LeBlanc’s musical career; he was the one who helped Laurie finance his first studio album La Pitoune.

Philanthropy

In 2017, Laurie and his wife Jeannette started reading motivational and inspiring books. “These books were life-changing…. Positive thinking and “stepping out of your comfort zone” are two amazing ways to find happiness.
