Laura Henry-Allain MBE is an author, television producer and early education specialist from London, UK, and the creator of the JoJo & Gran Gran series.

Biography

Henry-Allain grew up in Paddington, and later North Kensington with her five siblings.[1]. According to interviews, she was particularly close to her grandmother from St. Lucia, Marie-Helena, who lived to be a hundred and one years old, and after her death inspired the character of Gran Gran in the JoJo & Gran Gran series[2]

She wrote and self-published the Jo Jo and Gran Gran books, paying for illustration and printing costs herself, having no formal training in fiction writing or an agent. After the books saw success, a CBeebies animated adaptation was launched in March of 2020.

Henry-Allain’s most recent books, My Skin, Your Skin, and My Family Your Family, are published by Ladybird Books.

In 2021, she was awarded an MBE for Services to Education as part of the New Year Honours list, and the Nursery World Lifetime Achievement Award.[3]
