Kyiv National Economic University is a public, self-governing institution located in the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv. The institution first offered Higher commercial studies in 1906.

In 2012, it placed third in Compass's national rating of Ukrainian institutions. KNEU was ranked as Ukraine's second-best university by one of the world's most prestigious sources (Eduniversal, 2015). The same rating placed it third among Ukrainian universities in 2020.

The school was given its current name in 2005 to honour Vadym Hetman, a well-known Ukrainian banker, economist, and the man responsible for establishing the National Bank of Ukraine.
