Kwazi Mshengu (born 10 November 1984) is a South African lawyer and African National Congress (ANC) politician who has been serving as the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education since May 2019.[1] He became a Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature in May 2014. He was elected as the SRC President General in the University of KwaZulu-Natal|University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in 2006, a position held until 2008. Mshengu was also elected as the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) Provincial Chairperson in 2017, a position he currently holds .

Early life and education

MEC Kwazi Mshengu was born in Mooi River (town) (Midlands of KwaZulu-Natal) on the 10th of November 1984. He started his elementary education in Mooi River (town) and matriculated at Dabulamanzi Combined School in 2001. Kwazi MMshengu started his tertiary education at the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) in 2002 where he graduated with the Bachelor of Law (LLB). In 2007 he graduated in B.Soc.Sci Honours (Policy & Development Studies), also through University of KwaZulu-Natal. In 2017 MEC Mshengu graduated with the Master of Law (LLM), also from the University of KwaZulu-Natal.[2]

Political career

Kwazi's political consciousness started when he was very young where he showed his leadership qualities at a very early stage. From 2006 to 2008, he was elected as the SRC President General in University of KwaZulu-Natal, where he displayed impressive leadership qualities. His excellent performance as an SRC President led to him being elected as the Moses Mabhida Regional Secretary from 2007 to 2009. In June 2016, Mshengu was appointed as the Head of Ministry for the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs. In 2017 he was elected as the African National Congress Youth League Youth League Provincial Chairperson[3], the position he is still holding now. In 2018 Kwazi was elected as a Member of the ANC Provincial Executive Committee, Provincial Working Committee and the Chair: Sub-Committee on Communications. In may of 2019 he was appointed as KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Education.[1]

Kwazi Mshengu is married to Nneileng Mshengu.
