Kwame Osei Despite (born 2 February 1962) is a Ghanaian businessman and entrepreneur.[1][2][3][4] He is the CEO of the Despite Media Group.[5][6] He is also the Chief Executive of Despite Group of Companies.[7][8]

Early life

He was born in Agona Wiamoase in the Ashanti region of Ghana. He started life as a trader who sold music cassettes, feeding bottles, padlocks and other goods at Dunkwa-Offinso in the Central Region of Ghana. After many years of struggle to make it in life in the village, he migrated to Lagos, Nigeria with his colleagues to search for greener pastures.[9][3][2][7]


In 1983 after returning to Ghana with other Ghanaians, who had fled from Nigeria because of the political tension in the country. He came with one chain-saw machine but the machine was crushed by a falling tree on his first business trip. He later started selling cassettes until he diversified his business. He demonstrated his support for the local music industry which was formally in declined. He put Ghanaian culture when he went into radio and created Peace FM. The radio station used the Akan language which worked, as radio listeners preferred listening to the 104.3 frequency than those who were broadcasting only in the Queen's language.[2]

He had an honorary award degree award from a British University. He had this degree based on his entrepreneurship efforts and not based on any academic effort.[2][3]

He was recently adjudged the Social Entrepreneur of the Year at the Ghana Business Awards[5]
