Professor Kurunathan Ratnavelu graduated from the University of Malaya with a BSc (First Class Honors) and an MSc in Mathematics, later earning his PhD in Atomic Physics from Flinders University in 1985 on a Flinders Research Scholarship[1]. He advanced from lecturer in 1989 to professor by 2001. ZHis scholarly work, particularly in Theoretical Atomic Collision Processes[2] and positron-atom interactions, has earned him significant recognition, including the Malaysian Toray Science Foundation Science and Technology Award (2004) and the Young Scientist Award (Strategic Sector) by MOSTE (1996). He was elected Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia in 2005 and received Flinders University's Inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award in 2006.

Ratnavelu's research contributions include the optical potential method[1] for positron-hydrogen atom scattering and co-authoring significant work on anti-hydrogen formation with Jim Mitroy in 1995[3]. His academic influence extends through his roles as an associate editor for Malaysia's leading physics and science journals and as Honorary Secretary for both the Institut Fizik Malaysa and the Malaysian Mathematical Society since the 1990s.[4]

In administrative capacities, he served as Deputy Dean of Science at the University of Malaya from 2003 to 2006 and as acting Deputy Dean from 1999 to 2000, significantly contributing to the university's scientific and academic communities.[5]
