Kristen E. Boon is a Canadian legal scholar and academic administrator. She serves as the Susan & Perry Dellelce Dean of the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law (Common Law Section). In May 2025, she was elected President of the Council of Canadian Law Deans (CCLD), a national body representing the leadership of Canada's law schools.[1]

Her scholarship focuses on public international law, specifically the immunities of international organizations and state responsibility.

Education

Boon earned a Bachelor of Arts (Hons.) in Political Science and History from McGill University in 1994 and a Master of Arts in Political Science from McGill in 1996. She received her Juris Doctor from New York University School of Law in 2000. She later earned a Doctor of Juridical Science (J.S.D.) from Columbia Law School.[2]

Career

Boon began her legal career as a law clerk for Justice Ian Binnie at the Supreme Court of Canada.[3] She subsequently practiced as a litigation associate at Debevoise & Plimpton in New York City.

Seton Hall University

In 2006, Boon joined the faculty of Seton Hall University School of Law. During her tenure, she was appointed the Miriam T. Rooney Professor of Law and the Patrick Toscano Jr. Research Scholar.[4] She also served as the Associate Dean for Faculty Research and Development, where she oversaw clinical education programs.

University of Ottawa

In April 2023, Boon was appointed Dean of the Common Law Section at the University of Ottawa.[1] Her appointment made her the inaugural holder of the Susan & Perry Dellelce Deanship.

National Leadership

In 2025, Boon succeeded Martin Phillipson as the President of the Council of Canadian Law Deans (CCLD). In this capacity, she coordinates national dialogue on legal education and the integration of technology into law school curricula.[1]

Scholarship

Boon is the co-editor of The Cambridge Handbook of Immunities and International Law (2019), a reference work reviewing the state of immunity regimes for states and international organizations. She serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Canadian Yearbook of International Law.[5]
