Kostyantyn Bogdanovych Kopanishyn (Копанішин Костянтин Богданович; 02 February 1971 – 11 March 2022) was a Ukrainian military volunteer, soldier, junior sergeant. He was the crew commander of the 92nd Assault Brigade. Later, the commander of the 3rd airborne squad, the 3rd airborne platoon, the 1st airborne company of the 81st Airmobile Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Participant in the War in Donbas and Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

Short biography

Born on February 24, 1971 in Kharkiv, Ukraine.

He graduated from the 141 Lyceum of Kharkiv and the Kharkiv Machine Tool Technical College of the Kharkiv Polytechnic Institute

A pupil of the Kharkiv Sports school (sports children's and youth sports school of the Olympic reserve), where he received the title Master of Sports in Artistic gymnastics.

He had his own workshop for the production of furniture.

Despite the disability of the 2nd group, he stood up to defend the Motherland during the War in Donbas (2014-2017) and the Russian Invasion of Ukraine (2022).

During the Donbas war he served in the 92nd Assault Brigade as a crew commander in 152-mm divisional Self-propelled artillery howitzer 2S3.

In the first days of the Russian Invasion of Ukraine, in the rank of Junior Sergeant, he joined the 81st Airmobile Brigade in the position of the squad commander.

The house in Kharkiv Oblast, in which Konstantin and his family lived, was destroyed during the Russian Invasion of Ukraine.

Death

Died on March 11, 2022 while participating in the implementation of measures to ensure national security and defense, repulse and contain the armed aggression of the Russian Federation in the area of the village of Terny, Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.

He was buried on the Fame Alley of the 18th Cemetery in Kharkiv.

Family

He was married and has two children.

His own brother, Yuriy Kopanishyn, also joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine as a Military volunteer.[1]

Helping the needy

After the start of the War in Donbas, he housed a family of refugees from Luhansk Oblast in his house.

He regularly helped children's homes and children with disability.

Awards and Commemorations

According to the Decree of the President of Ukraine dated April 28, 2022, he was awarded the Order for Courage III degree (posthumously).[2]

Immortalized in the “Book of Memory of Those Who Died for Ukraine”.[3]
