Konstantinos (also spelled Constantinos) G. Polymeros (born 1995), also known by the Chinese name 莫磊 , is a Greek sinologist, linguist and writer. He is primarily known for his translation of the Dao De Jing , the first translation in Greece rendered directly from the ancient Chinese text.[1] He has also published books and articles in both Greek and Chinese, on topics such as Chinese culture, philosophy and politics. Additionally, he is known for his various translations of Tang dynasty poetry[2][3] and for his articles in China Radio International (CRI), in which he expresses pacifist and ecologist views, with special emphasis on nuclear contamination[4] and green energy.[5] Since 2022, Polymeros is teaching Chinese at the university of Western Macedonia.[6]
Life
Polymeros was born in Athens but grew up in the town of Lamia and his village, Tithorea -he mentions the latter in interviews.
Polymeros attended the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (EKPA), where he initially studied German Philology and Literature. In his second year (2014–2015), he began studying Chinese at the Confucius Institute of Athens.[7]
Work
Laozi's Dao De Jing Translation and commentary
His second and third works focus on the philosophy of Laozi, with "Plato, Laozi, and Other Forms" serving as an introduction to comparative philosophy, and "Dao De Jing: The Poem of the Old Man" (Greek: Tao Te Tzingk: To poiema toy giraiou) being his translation of Laozi's philosophical poem.[8] .
Reception
Polymeros' translation of the Dao De Jing has been recognized for its fidelity to the original Classical Chinese. The journal *Religions* analyzed his work alongside other modern Greek translations, noting its philological rigor and interpretive clarity.[9]
