Knut Deppert, born the 8th of May 1957 in Neuruppin, is a German-Swedish physicist and professor of aerosol physics at Lund University. Additionally, he heads the Nanocrystals and Epitaxy group within the division of Solid State Physics at the Department of Physics, Lund University.[1] as well as being an associated editor for the Journal of Crystal Growth[2] and used to be for the journal Aerosol Science and Technology[3]. He was also on the editorial review board of the Journal of Nano Education.

Deppert studied crystallography at Humboldt University of Berlin and in 1985 he defended his doctoral thesis Untersuchungen zur Flüssigphasenepitaxie von Pb(1-x)Sn(x)Te auf PbTe at the aforementioned university. From 1985 until 1990 he developed semiconductor structures using metalorganic vapor-phase epitaxy (MOVPE) under the supervison of Klaus Thiessen for the Zentralinstitut für Optik und Spektroskopie at the Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR in Berlin-Adlershof. He has since 1991 been researching and lecturing at Lund University in subject such as materials science and aerosol physics[4]. In 2003 he was awarded the position of professor at Lund University. During 2012-2017 he acted as prefect for the Department of Physics, Lund University|Department of Physics. Together with Lars Samuelson (physicist) he created the joint Bachelor's and Master's program Master of ScienceEngineering Nano-science at Lunds Tekniska Högskola which began in 2003. In 2011 he was awarded with Lund University's educational award[5]. Moreover, he is one of the inventors behind aerotaxi (epitaxial method)[6]
