Knox (born Knox Morris on 20 October 1997)[1][2][3] is an American pop singer and songwriter. Originally from Dayton, Ohio, he is now based in Nashville.[4] He is signed to Atlantic Records.[5]
Career
Morris began his journey in music during his first semester at Ohio University, where he learned to play guitar through YouTube videos[6] and engaged in open mic nights in Athens, Ohio.[3] This early stage of his career saw him performing at local events, including his cousin's wedding, and writing songs during his holiday breaks.[3]
His first major step into the music industry came with auditions for talent shows. Morris auditioned for America's Got Talent, though he did not progress past the audition stage. Later, he attended auditions for American Idol in various cities, including Columbus, Atlanta, and Louisville, where he performed in front of celebrity hosts.[3]
Following his appearances on these platforms, Morris' talent caught the attention of Zodlounge, a music production company in Nashville. This connection led to significant advancements in his career, including dropping out of university and relocating to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue music full-time.[3]
In Nashville, Morris collaborated with producers Brett Vargason, Tom Michael, and Aaron Moses at Zodlounge. This partnership facilitated the creation of his early music.[3]
Morris says that his approach to music draws inspiration from various sources and aims to create music that resonates with a wide audience. He emphasizes the universality of his music, stating that his songs emerge from diverse inspirations and cater to different tastes.[7]
As he established himself in the music industry, Morris began touring with notable bands such as The Band Camino[8] and Nightly[9][10] and participated in popular events like Emo Night in Nashville. Nightly also features in Morris' single "Miss When You Missed Me".
In February 2023, Morris released his first album titled "How To Lose A Girl in 7 Songs" and announced his signing to Atlantic Records.[11]
Morris recognises social media as an important factor in his growth, particularly TikTok and Instagram Reels.[12] His singles "Sneakers" and "Not the 1975" have both gained significant attention on these platforms, accumulating over 3 million views.[13] The singles have since surpassed 27 million and 6 million streams respectively.[10][14]
In September 2023, Morris released a new single titled "Man Down" and announced the release of his new album "I'm So Good At Being Alone?" for the following month.
In November 2023, Morris appeared on MTV Fresh Out to discuss the release of his album "I'm So Good At Being Alone?" and viral success on social media platforms.[12] Following the album's release, Morris released an acoustic version of "Not The 1975" and a new single, "Girl On The Internet".
In December 2023, Morris announced that his first headline tour would take place in January and Feburary 2024, with support from maryjo and Spencer Jordan.[15]
