Kmt G. Shockley is an American scholar, filmmaker, and professor whose work focuses on African and African diasporic cultures, educational equity, and culturally relevant pedagogy. He is best known for his scholarship on Afrocentric education, leadership development, and the cultural foundations of learning, particularly among African American and Afro-Latinx youth.
Early Life and Education
Shockley earned his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, College Park, in 2003. His academic training is interdisciplinary, bridging educational theory, policy, leadership, and African diasporic studies.
Academic Career
Shockley has held faculty positions at several institutions, including the University of Houston, where he holds a joint appointment in the College of Education and the Department of African American Studies. A founding board member of a charter school in Washington, D.C., Shockley is engaged in educational activism and mentorship.
