Klantenvertellen B.V. is a Dutch customer review software company based in Tilburg. The company operates two review platforms: Klantenvertellen (for service businesses) and Kiyoh (for e-commerce). It is a subsidiary of the German company eKomi.

History

Founding and early growth (2008–2014)

Klantenvertellen was founded in 2008. Kiyoh, launched in 2009, was among the first dedicated online review platforms in the Netherlands.[1] The two brands later merged to form KV Media Groep.

In August 2014, De Telefoongids (DTG, later renamed Youvia) acquired KV Media Groep. At the time of the acquisition, Kiyoh was used by more than 6,000 webshops, while Klantenvertellen had collected over 1.1 million reviews for more than 12,000 businesses.[1][2]

eKomi acquisition (2021)

In January 2021, the German feedback management company eKomi acquired Klantenvertellen and Kiyoh from Youvia.[3] The transaction was financed by Pride Capital Partners.[4] At the time of acquisition, the platforms served approximately 9,000 business customers with over 7 million published reviews.[3][5]

Industry recognition

Consumer research

In December 2023, the Consumentenbond (Dutch Consumers' Association) published a report titled Online reviews bekeken examining the practices of major review platforms in the Netherlands. The report evaluated Kiyoh alongside five other platforms including Amazon and Trustpilot. The investigation found that Kiyoh was one of only three platforms (along with Kieskeurig and Trustpilot) that maintained a formal complaints procedure for reviewers.[6]

Regulatory context

The Autoriteit Consument & Markt (Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets) has conducted research into online review practices in the Netherlands. In 2017, the ACM published guidelines for review platforms regarding transparency and consumer protection.[7]

Business model

The company operates a transaction-based review system, where review invitations are sent only to verified customers after a purchase.[6] Klantenvertellen is a licensed Google Review Partner, which allows collected reviews to appear in Google Ads and Google Shopping results.[8]
