Killer Nashville is an annual volunteer-produced education and networking convention of authors, publishers, editors, agents, and law enforcement personnel who are committed to mystery, thriller, and suspense writing in numerous genres. It was founded in 2006 by bestselling author and filmmaker Clay Stafford. Stafford founded Killer Nashville with three goals: 1) to assist authors starting their careers, 2) to help authors develop a better understanding of the craft, and 3) to ensure that law enforcement and forensics are portrayed in a fair and accurate manner.[1]
The conference is held the fourth full weekend of every August. Situated on the outskirts of Nashville, Tennessee, the conference draws bestselling authors, screenwriters, playwrights, filmmakers, fans, literary and film attorneys, editors, agents, and publishers from all over the globe.
Killer Nashville's objectives are to assist writers of all writing genres and formats; develop a better understanding of the craft of the mystery, thriller, suspense, and true crime writing genres specifically' discuss such topics as investigative techniques, verifying crime information, submitting one's manuscript for publication; and portray law enforcement and forensic science in an accurate manner
Killer Nashville is a multi-genre convention focusing on any genres that are driven either by thriller, mystery, or suspense elements of this world or another. Examples include, crime, mystery, thriller, spy, action, suspense, adventure, romantic suspense, and all subcategories including, but not limited to, comedy, cozy, hardboiled, historical, horror, legal, steampunk, paranormal, private eye, police procedural, political thriller, science fiction, fantasy, westerns, children's, young adult, et al.
Killer Nashville features over 70 panel and workshop sessions throughout the conference weekend. Sessions focus on various aspects of the publishing including craft, business, legal issues, and marketing/publicity. The conference also hosts many panels and workshops on forensics and law enforcement. These sessions are hosted by various attorneys, police professionals, physicians, firearms experts, attorney generals, public defenders, health professionals, and members or former or current members of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations, United States Department of Defense, United States Department of Treasury, United States Department of Justice, United States Department of Health and Human Services, the Central Intelligence Agency, et al.
