Khawaja Ahmadullah Wani (1919–1992) was an Indian businessman from Charar-e-Sharif in Jammu and Kashmir.
He is noted in regional accounts for his involvement in horticulture, landholding, and the local fruit trade during the mid-20th century.[1]
Early life
Khawaja Ghulam Ahmad Wani, later known as Khawaja Ahmadullah Wani, was born in 1919 in Charar-e-Sharif, Kashmir.[2]
He was the son of Haji Abdul Kareem, a trader. Limited documentation exists on his formal education, though regional accounts indicate he was literate in Urdu and Persian and involved in family trade from an early age.[2]
Business career
Wani became active in the fruit and horticulture sector of central Kashmir.
He was among the early traders to expand the fruit business of Charar-e-Sharif beyond local markets, reportedly exporting produce to larger towns in the Kashmir Valley.[3]
Accounts from the period describe him as a disciplined and fair trader, though such characterizations primarily appear in family and community publications and require independent corroboration.[2]
Social and community activities
According to regional narratives, Wani participated in community welfare and contributed to local charitable initiatives.[4]
He is said to have provided financial support for local marriages and relief efforts, although independent documentation for these activities is limited.[4]
Family
His second marriage was to Atiqa Begum (Atiqa Bano) of Chadoora, with whom he had three sons—Haji Abdul Rashid Wani, Khursheed Ahmad Wani and Nazir Ahmad Wani —and three daughters.[2][3]
Later life and death
Wani remained active in business and local affairs until his death in 1992.[1]
He is buried in Charar-e-Sharif.
While widely remembered in his community, his life and business activities have been primarily described in local archival material and family publications.[4]
