Kevin McAlpin is a sports reporter and on-air radio personality.[1] He has served as an Atlanta Braves Beat Reporter for the Atlanta Braves Radio Network at WCNN covering the Atlanta Braves since 2012.[2]

Career

McAlpin started his career at WBCB (AM) in Levittown, PA, an AM radio station owned by Philadelphia Eagles Philadelphia Hall of Fame play-by-play broadcaster Merrill Reese.[3] McAlpin wore several hats at the radio station including news and sports updates, play-by-play for high school football and basketball games, and overnight radio shifts.[4][3]

McAlpin spent four years as the on-air SportsCenter anchor at WPEN (FM) during morning and afternoon drive shifts, also recording station promotional announcements.[3] Alongside these on-air duties, McAlpin was the Promotions Coordinator for WPEN FM where he managed a thirty part-time employees ensuring station events were staffed and promoted on all social media channels.[3]

In 2010, McAlpin became WPEN FM's beat reporter for the station's coverage of Major League Baseball's Philadelphia Phillies.[5] For all 81 Phillies home games, McAlpin provided pre-game reviews, conducted player interviews, booked guests for radio spots, and provided in-game updates.[3] In December 2010, Kevin was inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Writers Association.[6] In the 2011 season, and in addition to duties with WPEN FM, McAlpin became a part-time stringer for the Atlanta Braves Radio Network.[7]

Starting at the 2012 season, McAlpin served as a member of the Atlanta Braves Radio Network at WCNN where he was embedded with the team for all home and away games.[8] From 2012–2020, McAlpin traveled with the team during the season providing in-game and post-game updates via radio and social media.[9] McAlpin's visits to various cities earned him a named burger at legendary New York restaurant Foley's NY in 2018.[10] McAlpin was host of the Atlanta Braves Wrap Up Show with Ben Ingram.[11]

Currently, McAlpin is the host of the "Atlanta Braves Today" weekly radio show,[11] 680 The Fan's Game Day,[12] WCNN blog author,[13] the Daily Braves Radio Network Podcast,[14] and the "Frozen Rope" Report with Kevin McAlpin.[15] During select Spring Training games, McAlpin provides play-by-play alongside lead Atlanta Braves anchor Ben Ingram.[9] McAlpin is an on-air regular contributor to MLB Network and WAGA-TV Fox5 Atlanta.[16][17][18]

Beginning in the 2020 Major League Baseball season, Kevin took over co-hosting duties on the Ford Leadoff Show with Chris Dimino when previous host Ben Ingram moved on to be the primary play-by-play voice of the Atlanta Braves.[1][9]
