Kevin Holm is a Canadian entrepreneur and electrical safety consultant. He is best known for developing a workplace electrical safety program at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL),[1] serving on Canadian Standards Association (CSA) committees for workplace electrical safety and maintenance standards,[2] and delivering international presentations on integrated safety management.[3] He owns Safeguard Electric Inc., a Cummins standby generator dealership and service provider in Ontario’s Ottawa Valley.[4] His work and business advocacy have been covered by national and regional media including CBC News,[5] CTV News Ottawa,[6] and The Hamilton Spectator.[7]
Early life and education
Holm studied Electrical Engineering Technology at Sir Sandford Fleming College, graduating in 2001.[1] He holds a 309A Construction & Maintenance Electrician licence and the Certified Engineering Technician (C.Tech.) designation from the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT).[8]
Career
Canadian Nuclear Laboratories
Holm worked at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL), where he helped develop a workplace electrical safety program that was recognized within the nuclear industry.[1] In 2014, he received the Distinguished Merit Award from CNL for contributions to electrical safety program development.[9]
CSA standards work
Holm served on two CSA technical committees — Z462 Workplace Electrical Safety and Z463 Electrical Maintenance — contributing to national standards on safe work practices and maintenance.[2][10]
Presentations
In 2017, Holm co-authored and presented "Integrated Safety Management (ISM) & Risk Management — A Complementary Pairing" at the IEEE IAS Electrical Safety Workshop in Reno, Nevada.[11] He was also a featured speaker at the 4th Electrical Safety Experts Symposium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.[3]
Safeguard Electric Inc.
Holm founded Safeguard Electric Inc., an Ontario-based electrical contracting company and Cummins standby generator dealer.[4] The company has appeared in regional media coverage of municipal signage policy and local business issues.[5]
