Kevin Farge is an American singer-songwriter, composer, poet, and visual artist known for his songwriting and arrangements. He has lived and worked in Costa Rica. His 2022 release, Halcyon Days, received positive reviews from online music publications.
Early life and background
Farge was born in Houston, Texas and spent parts of his upbringing in Costa Rica.[1] He began writing music in his childhood years,[2] drawing inspiration from natural landscapes of the Americas, the Ananda Marga meditation practice, and the avant-garde art world. His multicultural background is often reflected in the lyrical and rhythmic elements of his work.[1]
Career
Farge started performing at house shows and local coffeehouses in Austin, Texas, during the late 2010s. Kevin spent a period writing, recording music, and surfing in Costa Rica beginning in 2018.[1] Over time, his music gained traction online, especially among indie and folk audiences.
His breakthrough came with the albums Low Tide (2022) and Halcyon Days (2022), a collection of folk songs and instrumental pieces that explore themes of memory, belonging, and solitude. Halcyon Days received praise for its emotional depth and subtle production.[3]
In addition to his solo work, Farge has contributed original compositions to independent films, including Sans Soleil (2021) directed by Banu Akseki.
Musical style and influences
Farge's style is rooted in folk, pop, and the avant-garde, and often incorporates orchestral textures. His lyrics are poetic and meditative, drawing comparisons to artists such as Nick Drake, Sufjan Stevens, and Adrianne Lenker.[2]
Reception
Reviewers have praised Farge's music for its "gentle force." Folk Radio stated that "subtly, imperceptibly, Kevin Farge builds Halcyon Days into something of a quiet revolution."[3] Halcyon Days was featured on Bandcamp Daily and curated folk playlists on Spotify.
