Kenneth Kirschenbaum (born August 5, 1948) is an American lawyer known throughout the United States for his legal work representing the life safety electronic integration burglar and fire alarm industry. He is a former Standing Chapter 13 Trustee and the longest-serving United States Bankruptcy Trustee in the Eastern District of New York, Central Islip Division. Kirschenbaum is the founder and managing partner of the law firm Kirschenbaum & Kirschenbaum PC.

Early life and education

Kirschenbaum was born on August 05, 1948, in New York City to Samuel and Alyce Kirschenbaum and was raised among two siblings. He graduated from Herrick High School in 1966, and then, after completing his high school diploma, he attended and graduated from Adelphi University, Garden City, New York, where he studied psychology and received a Bachelor’s Degree in 1970. While attending Adelphi University, Kirschenbaum worked as a psychiatric attendant at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, and following his graduation, he taught emotionally challenged children at Maimonides Institute in Far Rockaway, New York. In 1970, he attended St. John University in its Masters Program for clinical psychology while working as a Special Ed teacher where he taught emotionally challenged children at Maimonides Institute in Far Rockaway, New York. Before graduating from the St. Johns University he enrolled in Brooklyn Law School in 1974, graduating in 1974 with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree in law.

Career

Kirschenbaum founded the law firm Kenneth Kirschenbaum PC in 1977. When his father, Samuel Kirschenbaum, a Brooklyn Law School graduate, joined his law firm in 1984 upon retiring as senior Litigation partner at Dreyer and Traub, he changed the name of his law firm to Kirschenbaum & Kirschenbaum PC. Later his daughter, Jennifer Kirschenbaum, also a Brooklyn Law School graduate, joined the law firm in 2008. Kirschenbaum established the Samuel Kirschenbaum Prize at Brooklyn Law School in honor of his father in 1975, which prize is awarded yearly to the Brookly Law School graduate with the highest grade in Real Estate Practice. In addition he established The Martin Press Prize at Brooklyn Law School which prize is awarded yearly to the Brookly Law School graduate with the highest grade in Taxation. He also established The Kenneth Kirschenbaum Prize at Adelphi University, which prize is awarded yearly to the graduating senior accepted to law school and voted by the falculty most likely to succeed.

Contributions and recognitions

Since 1976, Kirschenbaum has been a United States Bankruptcy Trustee in the Eastern District of New York and is the longest-serving trustee on the United States Trsutee Panel in the Central Islip Divisiol. Between 1979 and 1984, he was the Standing Chapter 13 trustee for the Eastern District of New York, Brooklyn Division. Kirschenbaum has been legal counsel to the burglar and fire alarm industry since 1976 and continues to serve as counsel to the Metropolitan Burglar and Fire Alarm Association of New York and the Electronic Security Association, formerly the New York Burglar and Fire Alarm Association.

Kirschenbaum is known for burglar and fire alarm contracts throughout the United States. In the early 1980s, Kirschenbaum designed a Standard Alarm Agreement and since then the Kirschenbaum Contracts™ have become the gold standard agreements in the burglar and fire alarm industry in the United States, currently being used by most of the life safety, burglar and fire alarm companies in the United States. Kirschenbum was inducted into the Security Sales & Integration Hall of Fame in 2009 in recognition of his services to the security and fire alarm industry. Kirschenbaum was for many years the author of Legal Side and You Be The Judge, monthly legal columns published by Security Dealer Magazine, and currently is a contributing columnist writing a monthly legal article published by Security Sales and Integration Magazine. Kirschenbaum was accepted as a Security Partner in the AIN Group, an established buying group for security and alarm professionals. He writes a daily news article emailed and read by individuals associated with the alarm industry. Kirschenbaum also enables The Alarm Exchange, which provides classifieds in an electronic platform to the alarm industry and vendors serving the alarm industry. In addition, Kirschenbaum has made guest presentations to numerous alarm trade associations throughout the United States.

Courts admitted to practice

He is admitted to practice law at several courts, including the United States Supreme Court, United States Court of Federal Claims, United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, United States District Courts for the Eastern and Southern Districts of New York and the Southern District of Florida. Personal life

Kirschenbaum grew up with his brothers Gene and Lawrence Kirschenbaum, both of whom are medical doctors.

He lives with his wife Lois, a real estate broker, in Old Westbury, New York. The couple has two children, Jennifer and Adam Kirschenbaum.
