Kejia Wu (American) is an art historian and China art market observer.

Education

Wu is a graduate of Yale University and Renmin University of China.

Career

Early in her career Wu was a driving force in the development of a more professional private art scene in Beijing, co-founding the first non-profit art center, East Modern Art Center, in 2001. Soon to be internationally famous artists Song Dong, Yin Xiuzhen, and Wu Wenguang all participated in this groundbreaking center.[1] One of the artworks, Dance with Farm Workers,[2] was selected to be shown at the 2015 Venice Biennale.

As an academic she was a member of the faculty and taught at Sotheby's Institute of Art and Claremont Graduate University.[3] She has also lectured at a number of institutions including Columbia University,[4] New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture,[5] and New York University Shanghai[6] and is often quoted in major media outlets on the topic of China's art market.[7][8][9] Since 2012 she has been a trustee of the New York Studio School of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture.[10]

Kejia wrote the The European Fine Art Foundation 2019 Art Market Report with a special focus on the Chinese Art Market[11] which was widely covered in the media[12] predicting future difficulties for private museums.[13]

She is the author of the first book covering China's modern art market A Modern History of China's Art Market[14][15] and writes a column for Financial Times Chinese Edition.[16]

In 2019 the Editors of The Art Newspaper China Edition, ArtReview Asia, and LEAP named her the Art Market Observer of the Year[17][18]
