Kayden Muller-Janssen (born May 19 2002) is an American actress, and singer songwriter known professionally as Kayden. She began her music career with the release of her single “Kiss Kiss Baby” in 2019, which landed a #1 spot on Radio Disney[1]. On television, Muller-Janssen is known for her role as Hartley on the Disney Channel series, The Villains of Valley View (2022-present)[1]. She began her film career shortly after landing the Disney series, starring in the Tubi movie Classmates (2023)[2].
Early life
Raised in Wellington, Florida, Muller-Janssen was born into a family of professional horse trainers[3]. While her siblings ride horses competitively in jumping and dressage, Muller-Janssen chose to pursue the performing arts instead, maintaining horseback riding as a hobby[3]. During her childhood years, she would often sing for her family and friends; Muller-Janssen says she was bullied growing up and used music to cope, which led her to her passion for singing[4]. She joined a competitive baton twirling team with whom she competed for nine years and became national champions[5]. Muller-Janssen then attended a Middle School of the Arts where she was cast as Dorothy in their production of The Wizard of Oz and performed in several other school plays[6]. The owners of the Green Room eventually brought Muller-Janssen with them to a showcase camp in Los Angeles, where she met her soon to be agent, marking the start of her acting career[3].
Music career
Muller-Janssen released her debut single “Kiss Kiss Baby” under the name “Kayden” in 2019, which made its way to the #1 spot on Radio Disney[1]. Later that year, she released her next single, “Walk,” which became a top 5 most requested video on Music Choice along with “Kiss Kiss Baby”[1]. In October 2022, Muller-Janssen released her debut EP, Unraveled, a soulful project featuring her single “Crave” and a cover of Etta James’ “I’d Rather Go Blind”[6]. In November 2022, the song “We Don’t Care” (From “The Villains of Valley View”)” debuted on Season 1 of the Disney Channel series and streaming platforms, with vocals by Muller-Janssen and her Disney co-star Isabella Pappas.
Acting career
After auditioning for many projects over the years, Muller-Janssen landed her breakout role at the age of 19 as Hartley on the Disney Channel series, The Villains of Valley View[7]. Season 1 of the series premiered in June 2022, starring Muller-Janssen alongside James Patrick Stuart, Lucy Davis, and Isabella Pappas, among others[8]. Muller-Janssen has returned for Season 2 of the series, which debuted in June 2023[8].
Muller-Janssen also began her film career in 2022, landing a lead role in the Tubi movie Classmates which premiered in 2023[2]. Muller-Janssen stars alongside Anjelica Bette Fellini as Raury and Anabella, two classmates who have their identities swapped on the first day of college due to a computer hack[2]. The film was directed by Danielle Fishel and Jensen Karp[2].
Influences
Muller-Janssen’s music inspiration comes from soul, R&B, and pop music[4]. Her biggest musical influences include Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, and Ariana Grande[9][10]. She credits Charlize Theron, Halle Berry, Ariana Grande, and Zendaya as her on-screen role models[9][10].
