Kartik Kumra is an Indian menswear designer.
Early life and education
Kumra cites Supreme as his earliest entry into the fashion industry, having purchased and resold sneakers from the streetwear brand as a teenager.[2] Kumra attended University of Pennsylvania for his undergraduate education, where prior to the creation of Karu Research was studying economics.[1]
Career and awards
Karu Research was founded in 2021. While Kumra attended classes remotely at the University of Pennsylvania in Gurugram, Kumra began working with local artisans to begin his global menswear brand.[1][3] Kumra cites Belgian designer Dries Van Noten as a significant influence on his use of color.[2]
The brand became one of the twenty-two semifinalists in the running for the LVMH Prize, showcased during Paris Fashion Week.[4] Kumra was included in the 2023 Forbes 30 under 30 list for Asia.[5]
