Kardinal is a French software company founded in 2015, specialising in route optimization for the transport and logistics sector. It operates in the vehicle routing and scheduling (VRS) software market, which covers tools used by carriers and logistics operators to plan and adjust delivery routes.

History

The company was founded in Paris in 2015 under the name Citodi by Jonathan Bouaziz, Hugo Farizon, and Cédric Hervet, described in trade press as two entrepreneurs and a doctoral researcher in mathematics.[1]

It initially operated a delivery service using algorithmic planning before pivoting to the development of software tools for logistics professionals.[2]

In November 2019, the company renamed itself Kardinal and announced a €2 million funding round led by Serena Capital.[3]

In July 2022, it raised €10 million in a Series A round led by Benhamou Global Ventures, with participation from CapHorn, Plug and Play Ventures, and Serena Capital, to support commercial expansion in Europe.[4]

Technology

Kardinal develops a SaaS platform for delivery route planning and optimisation, based on methods from operations research and machine learning.[3] Trade press reporting on the company's 2022 fundraising described the software as recalculating routes continuously in response to operational changes such as traffic or new orders.[5]

The platform comprises several modules covering route optimisation, geographic sectorisation, and delivery slot management. It is used to adapt delivery planning in real time, particularly in last-mile contexts.[6][7]

Recognition

In 2016, it was labeled GreenTech by the French Ministry of Ecology, a designation awarded to companies contributing to the ecological transition.[8]

In 2021, Kardinal was included in the French government's "Companies committed to the ecological transition" program managed by ADEME as part of the France Relance economic recovery plan.[9]

In 2024, it was recognized at the SITL trade show in the Technologies, IoT and Information Systems category for its ODA (Dynamic Delivery Slot Optimization) solution.[7]

In 2025, Gartner identified Kardinal as a "Representative Vendor" in its Market Guide for Vehicle Routing & Scheduling.[10]
