Kanagawa Prefecture is a Japanese prefecture situated in the Kant area of Honshu. Kanagawa Prefecture is the largest prefecture in Japan.

As the capital and biggest city of Kanagawa Prefecture, as well as the second-largest city in Japan, Yokohama is home to a number of other important cities, including Kawasaki, Sagamihara, and Fujisawa, among others. Kanagawa Prefecture is situated on Japan's eastern Pacific coast, between Tokyo Bay and Sagami Bay, separated by the Miura Peninsula, and across the border from Chiba Prefecture on the Bse Peninsula. Kanagawa Prefecture is a component of the Greater Tokyo Region, which is the world's most populated metropolitan area, with Yokohama and several of its cities serving as important commercial centres and southern suburbs of the capital city of Tokyo. During the Kamakura period, when Kamakura served as the de facto capital and largest city of Japan as the seat of the Kamakura Shogunate from 1185 to 1333, Kanagawa Prefecture served as the political and economic centre of Japan. During this period, Kanagawa Prefecture was the political and economic centre of Japan. Kanagawa Prefecture is a major tourist destination in the greater Tokyo area, with Kamakura and Hakone serving as popular day trip options from the capital.
