Dr. Kalvakuntla Sanjay (born 18th October 1976) is an Indian Politician, Philanthropist, and Orthopedic surgeon (specialising spine surgery). Dr. Sanjay is a leading Spine Surgeon in Hyderabad.[1]
Dr. K. Sanjay is running as a Bharat Rashtra Samithi party candidate for the Korutla Assembly constituency in the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly election. He actively participated in the Telangana Movement and served as Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR)'s personal doctor during his fast-to-death for Telangana State. KCR has mentioned that Dr. Sanjay has saved his life during the Telangana movement.[2]
His foray into politics is marked by his dedication to serving people and promoting good governance, effective government and public welfare.[3]
Early life and Education
Sanjay Kalvakuntla was born to Kalvakuntla Vidyasagar Rao and Saroja in Metpelly, Karimnagar district, Telangana (erstwhile Andhra Pradesh), India, on 18th October 1976. His father, Kalvakuntla Vidyasagar Rao was a Member of the Telangana Legislative Assembly from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi party and represented Koratla Assembly constituency|Korutla Constituency since its inception.
He completed his Schooling at Triveni Academy, Chennai. He studied Intermediate at Vignan Junior College in Guntur. IT minister K.T. Rama Rao and Dr Sanjay were classmates at Vignan Junior College in Guntur. Since then, they have been good friends.[4] From a young age, Sanjay was driven by a deep passion for making a difference in the lives of others, and this unwavering commitment led him to choose a career in Medicine. He went on to complete his MBSS degree from B.M. Patil Medical College, Bijapur in 1999. He completed his MS ortho from JSS Degree College, Mysore in 2003.
Upon completing his education, Sanjay worked at NIMS Hospital, Hyderabad. During his time at NIMS hospital, Dr Sanjay realized that there was a lack of Spine specialists in Hyderabad and decided to go abroad to specialize in Spine Surgery. He did fellowships in Spine surgery at Chonnam National University, South Korea and Singapore General Hospital, Singapore.
Political Career
He actively participated in the Telangana Movement and served as Kalvakuntla Chandrasekhar Rao's personal doctor during his fast-to-death for Telangana State. KCR has mentioned that Dr. Sanjay has saved his life during the Telangana movement.[5]
Bharat Rashtra Samithi has fielded him as the party candidate in Korutla Constituency in the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly election.
Philanthropy
Over the past two decades, Dr. Sanjay has tirelessly organized numerous mega health camps in Korutla and Metpally, in partnership with esteemed medical hospitals as Yashoda. These health camps offered free medical tests, including ENT examinations, heart-related diagnostics, women's health screenings, and cancer tests to benefit thousands of individuals within the Korutla Constituency. Dr. Sanjay's commitment to his constituents goes above and beyond. He has played a pivotal role in ensuring that the people of Korutla can access medical care with greater ease and affordability. He has worked tirelessly to secure discounted healthcare services for the residents at Yashoda and other hospitals in the region. Dr. Sanjay's dedication to enhancing healthcare accessibility has earned him the affectionate title of " Discount Doctor".
During the Coronavirus pandemic, He was a savior to the people of Korutla Constituency. He sent Oxygen cylinders, medicines and other essentials to people who were adversely affected by the coronavirus pandemic. He also started a free ambulance service to help transport COVID-19 patients to Hyderabad. He helped numerous people who lost their family members during the pandemic by providing financial support.[6]
Dr. Sanjay strongly believes that strong educational institutions are building blocks of a strong society and a strong economy. He improved Raghavapet, Paidimadugu and Korutla Government Schools by building new classrooms and adding new facilities.
Dr. Sanjay has also organized trips for Korutla Constituency Degree college students to We-hub, T-hub and T-works to inspire their interest in the Information Technology Industry. He also set up free training centers for Telangana Government job aspirants and has provided them with all the facilities to help them succeed in the group exams.
