Kesavan Sasidharan (Knowns as Kallada Sasi, കല്ലട ശശി) was a Malayalam Poet and Lyricist from Kerala, India.

Biography

Kallada Sasi was born to C.Kesavan and Velutha Kunju on 13-10-1932 at Thevalappuram, Puthur, Kollam Dist in Kerala. He moved to East Kallada(Kizhakkekallada), Thekkemurei, Kollam where his mother's permanent residence existed.

He passed his E.S.L.C examination from Kottayam Nair Service English High School. Throughout his high school carrier, he scored the First position in oratory functions. He passed his Intermediate examination from the S.N. College, Kollam(1950-1952). During his college days, he was fully engaged in leftist dealings. He was associated with the then companions V. Sambasivan,Vayalar Ramavarma and O.N.V Kurup. After passing the Itermdeidate exam he joined the University College Thiruvananthapuram for Malayalam as the optional subject.

His poems were published in Janagugam publications in "Olipporil" (ഒളിപ്പോരിൽ). He spent his time at 'Thilleri Maidanam' at Kollam for his poem writing.

Kallada Sasi joined as a Primary School teacher at Aruvikkara, Thiruvananthapuram in 1956. After that, he was appointed as Chief Publicity Officer in Harijan Welfare Department in 1958, Calicut. Subsequently, he was sent to Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Bombay as a trainee student for two years.

He was served as Taluk Welfare Officer, Cultural Development officer at the Public Relations Office Department, Thiruvananthapuram. He retired from service as Dy. Director(Tribal Development Department), Thodupuzha, Kerala in 1987.

Sarvasree: Thoppil Bhasi, Veliyam Bhargavan, Karoor Sasi,Kambisseri Karunakaran were his well-wishers. In Thoppil Bhasi 's novel "Olivile Ormakal" (ഒളിവിലെഓർമകൾ) Bhasi had written about Kallada Sasi.

Sri: Thoppil Krishna Pillai, Achuthan Pillai Raghavan, K.P.A.C Sulochana, Thottam Rajasekharan and V.K Narayanan(Director, Public Relations Department) were the great friends of Kallada Sasi.

He was the regular columnist in well-known publications from the year 1956 onwards.Sri.K. Balakrishnan(Son of Sri. Kesavan C. Kesavan, Ex-Chief Minister of Travancore-Cochin) had the brotherly affection with him.

During the partition of the Communist Party, he became very sorry for and published a poem titled "ഒരു ഘടികാരവുo രണ്ടു സൂചി കളും" in the special publication.

During the year 1966, he got the first price for "ഒരു പൂജാരിയുടെ കഥ" in connection with the competition held in health service regarding Family Planning.

He was one of the members of Swathi Samskarika Sanghatana(formed by the Government of Kerala) along with his longtime companions Sri.G. Devarajan, Music Director and V.K. Narayanan (Director, Public Relations Department).

Special Works

As far as his special works with regard to communal activities he had written poems and welcome song (വരവായി... വരവായി.. ഒരു യുഗവിപ്ലവസാരഥി വരവായി..) in connection with the procession in installing the statue of Sri.Ayyankali at Vellayambalam Thiruvananthapuram.

Kallada Sasi wrote in golden letters about Sri.Ayyankali.

"ഇന്നുമീകുരുക്ഷേത്ര വർണ്ണസംഗരഭൂവിൽ നിന്നുയിർക്കൊള്ളും പാഞ്ചജനൃമാണയ്യൻകാളി"

His welcome song and poems were sung by the parties in the procession from Kasargode to Thiruvananthapuram and received an overwhelming response from hundreds of people who were part of the procession.

He was closely associated with Sri.K. K. Balakrishnan and Ezra David(Sculptor of Ayyankali Statue) from inception to the inauguration of Sri. Ayyankali statue.

Ponnada(പൊന്നാട) and credential of recognition were awarded to Sri. Kallada Sasi for his outstanding contributions in poetry writing and lyric writing for the last 30 years by octogenarian K. M. George (writer), Literary laurate and multilinguist on 14-04-1996 at Thiruvananthapuram in the function celebrating 106th birthday of Dr.B. R. Ambedkar.

Marriage and children

He was settled at Devaswom Board, Thiruvananthapuram with his wife LilyAmma and they have two daughters and four sons.

Death and afterward

Kallada Sasi died on 13-10-1996 at Devaswom Board, Thiruvananthapuram, and was cremated at Thycaud Santhikavadam.
