Kala Krishnan Ramesh (née Kala Krishnan) is a contemporary English-language Indian poet and fiction writer. She lives and works in Bangalore, India, and teaches writing and Indian Literature at the prestigious Mount Carmel College, Bangalore.[1] Kala studied English Literature at Bangalore University. [2]

Kala has published two collections of poetry, He is Honey, Salt and the Most Perfect Grammar[3][4][5](2016) (Harper Collins India) and Offer Him All Things, Charred, Burned and Cindered [6][7](2019) (Westland Publications). Her debut novel Mahasena: Part One of the Murugan Trilogy[8] (2021) tells the mythological story of the Tamizh god Murugan [9][10] (better known as Kartikeya in North India). Murugan, revered in South India (especially in the state of Tamil Nadu) as the Tamizh (Tamil) god of poetry, appears often in Kala's poems. [11][12]

In a 2018 interview with Deccan Chronicle, the poet says, “Murugan is interesting, and in Tamil, he’s the God of poetry and grammar, love and war. He’s a lot of opposites – I like that. It makes writing about him arduous.”[13]

Kala also writes columns for platforms like The Hindu [14], Firstpost [15][16], The Caravan [17], SheThePeople[18], and Scroll.in [19]. Kala has been showcased on Poetry at Sangam [20].
