Matthew Leeming, known professionally as KID HEXX is an Aboriginal Australian rapper and producer from Newcastle, New South Wales. He began experimenting with music in late 2019 as he was starting to be heavily influenced by the artists he was listening to.
Early life
Matthew Leeming was born on July 11, 2004, in Newcastle, New South Wales. He attended Cessnock High School for his secondary education from 2017 to 2022. He began producing beats and writing lyrics at the age of 15 after becoming addicted to hip hop and rap music. This love for music could have stemmed from growing up around that type of music with cousin and fellow HIVEMIND member Brody Berwick
Aboriginal background
Leeming's Aboriginal identity comes from the Dharug tribe and although he only learnt about his Aboriginality when first starting year 7, he regularly practiced his culture during high school as a part of Cessnock High School's Kirawa Aboriginal dance group from year 8 to year 12 and participated in all cultural programs provided.
Musical Influences
Leeming has a variety of musical influences including Tyler, The Creator, Juice WRLD, Westside Gunn, Odd Future, Wu Tang Clan, Ol' Dirty Bastard, Big L, Post Malone, Joey Bada$$ and Flatbush Zombies
Leeming was fascinated with 90's hip hop, but he favoured Wu Tang Clan in particular and that is how he came up with some of his musical style choices.
