Jyshoun Derick Underwood, professionally known as Jyshoun Sings.[1], is an American R&B singer-songwriter, and producer.

He started his career as one-fourth of R&B group Metro City, performing under the name Jyshoun Mcneil. His first notable success was as a featured lead vocalist with Keyshia Cole on the track "Superstar," on her debut album, "The Way It Is"[2]. The album received platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) and earned two nominations at the 2006 Soul Train Music Awards.

Initially signed to former New England Patriots linebacker Willie Mcginest's 55 Entertainment[3], Metro City was then signed to A&M Records by its president Ron Fair, and Jyshoun wrote the song, "All We Need Is Love”. The song became part of the 2004 movie soundtrack[4] for Hair Show, starring Mo'Nique and Kellita Smith.

Jyshoun is currently signed as a writer with Sony Music Publishing and has released two albums, an EP, and several singles as an independent artist[5][6].

On June 16, 2023, Jyshoun sang the national anthem[7] at Fenway Park for the Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees game, following in the footsteps of music icon Whitney Houston, who also famously sang on that pitch. On December 27, 2023, Jyshoun performed his latest single[8], a remix of South African singer Tyla's hit single Water at Boston's JAM'N 94.5 FM[9]. He performed live and recorded a second remix with DJ and host, Karim Karamali[10], aka djpupdawg[11].

Early Life and Background

Born and raised in Roxbury, the "heart of Black culture in Boston”, as the youngest among his father's seven children and the only child of his mother. Jyshoun's musical journey was deeply influenced by his grandfather who imparted valuable advice to master both background and lead vocals — a practice that would later shape his signature self-backing recording style[12].
