Justin Berkovi (born May 21, 1974) is a British techno DJ, producer, and live performer known for his contributions to the electronic music scene since the 1990s. He is recognized for his versatile productions that span from minimal techno to emotive ambient tracks.

Early Life and Education

Berkovi was born in Watford, Hertfordshire, England, and spent part of his childhood in Luxembourg. He developed an early interest in music, influenced by synth-pop and hip-hop genres. After experimenting with electronics and tape loops during his school years, he pursued higher education at the University of Sussex, graduating in 1996. Post-graduation, he focused on music production and DJing.

Career

Berkovi’s initial releases appeared on labels such as Sativae and Cristian Vogel’s Mosquito. He gained attention with singles on experimental dance labels like Djax-Up-Beats and Force Inc. In 1998, he founded his own label, Predicaments, and released his debut album, Charm Hostel. The following year, he released After the Night.

Throughout his career, Berkovi has performed at renowned clubs and festivals worldwide, including Tresor, Berghain, Womb (Tokyo), Ministry of Sound, Amnesia (Ibiza), Dance Valley (Netherlands), Nature One (Germany), Love Parade (Berlin), I Love Techno (Belgium), and 10 Days Off (Belgium).

His music has received support from notable artists such as Adam Beyer, Technasia, The Advent, Dave Clarke, Dubfire, Chris Liebing, Ben Sims, Shake Shakir, Claude Young, and Wehbba.

In addition to his techno productions, Berkovi has explored experimental electronica, as evidenced by his album Charm Hostel. He also produced a Peel Session for the late John Peel and contributed to the Kats Karavan John Peel tribute album.
