Julius Cotter ^[1]^[2] (born 4th of January 1968 in Dublin) is an actor best known for his performances in the Spanish Telecinco series La verdad (serie de televisión española)' (2018) as Hugh Fleming ^[3], in the Netflix series Unauthorized Living'' (2020) as Mr. Anderson ^[4]^[5] , in Out of Sync (2021) as Phil ^[6] and in Black Beach (2020) as U.N. envoy Ronald ^[7].

Early life

Julius Cotter was born in Dublin, Ireland, on 4th January 1968. The Cotter family, of Norse-Gaelic descent, are descendents of Óttar of Dublin who occupied Dublin in 1142 and reigned untill 1148 ^[8]^[9]^[10]^[11]. He is the son of Sir Patrick Cotter Bt. and Janet Potter, and the brother of costume designer Jemima Cotter ^[12]^[13]^[14]. He was educated at St. Michael's, Tawstock Court and later Allhallows College, Rousden, near Lyme Regis ^[15]^[16]. At the age of 19 he moved to London to study for a BA Hons degree in Fine Art and Film History, at the University of East London. During this time he exhibited in various group exhibitions ^[17]. He later worked at the Michael Parkin Gallery in Motcomb street, as gallery assistant hanging shows ^[18]^[19]. In 1999 he moved to Spain. Here he started to work on film and commercial shoots, behind the camera, as an assistant director untill 2009 when he turned his focus to acting and studied the Meisner Technique with Javier Galitó-Cava and Rachael Adler ^[20]^[21]^[22].

Acting career

Cotter's debut appearance on the big screen was as Dr. Jennings in the Rodrigo Cortés directed film Red Lights (2012), opposite Robert de Niro and Joely Richardson ^[23]. In his early career he collaborated in the French television series Cannabis (TV series) (2016) acting alongside Pedro Casablanc ^[24]^[25]. He later landed the role of Hugh Fleming in the Spanish television series La verdad (serie de televisión española) (2018), working alongside Ginés García Millán ^[26]. He then went on to play the criminal Rudolf Van Gaal in the Spanish series Servir y Proteger (serie de televisión española) (Serve and Protect) ^[27]. In 2019 he played the role of Sir Henry Bedingfield in the historical Spanish series El Ministerio del Tiempo (The Ministry of Time, The Bloody Mary Hour) ^[28]. He landed the role of the United Nations envoy, Ronald, in the feature film Black Beach (2020) directed by Esteban Crespo playing opposite the Spanish actor Raúl Arévalo ^[29]. In 2020 Juanjo Giménez directed him in Out of Sync (alternative title: Tres) acting alongside Marta Nieto, which featured at the Sitges Film Festival 2021 ^[30]^[31]^[32]^[33]
