Julian Aleksandrovich Shulmeister (May 1, 1917, Odesa, Ukraine – June 18, 1991, Lviv, Ukraine) – writer, author of books about the Holocaust in Western Ukraine.
Biography
Was born in Odesa on May 1, 1917. Got two University degrees: in History, and Law; Ph.D. in Law.
A veteran of World War II. Awarded with military orders and medals. Since 1945 Julian lived in Lviv, Ukraine. He took part in the investigation of the crimes of Nazi occupiers and their accomplices in Western Ukraine. Working with archive materials, Julian created a registry, which included hundreds of documents exposing those who took part in the mass executions. After retiring from the army in 1961, he devoted himself entirely to writing. The theme of his books is Janowska concentration camp|Janowska Concentration Camp (Lviv). Julian Schulmeister was twice in Vienna visiting Simon Wiesenthal. The autograph book by S. Wiesenthal is kept in the family archive. Died on June 18, 1991. Julian was buried at the Goloskovsky cemetery in Lviv.
