Early Life and Education (1998-2020)
Josh Bieuz-Yasyszczuk was born in September 1998 in Welland, a small post-industrial Ontario city.
Early in his life, he was placed into foster care by FACS Niagara, the regional offshoot of the Children’s Aid Society. He became a Crown Ward, and bounced between different foster homes and group homes before eventually turning eighteen, and leaving the foster care system in a process known as “aging out.” He developed a drug addiction[1], and eventually dropped out of highschool.
In June 2017, Bieuz-Yasyszczuk graduated from the Father Patrick H. Fogarty Adult Education Centre, an NCDSB-run school for adults, and received his Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD).
Activism
In June 2021, Bieuz-Yasyszczuk founded NiagaraGives, a civic and social movement, and the official Niagara Region arm of GivingTuesday Canada[2]. The movement itself is comprised of local businesses, charities, and other entities including the City of Thorold[3], and has actively advocated for many causes since its inception, including support for Ukrainian refugees[4][5], awareness campaigns for Indigenous Canadians[6], and solidarity with Türkiye and Syria following devastating earthquakes[7].
In addition to his work with GivingTuesday, he is a signatory of the Responsible Business Initiative for Justice and Sir Richard Branson-led Business Leaders’ Declaration Against the Death Penalty[8]. He is also the youngest member of the Heart Niagara Board of Directors in the organization’s history.
