Joseph (Joe) O’Dea (born January 20, 1962) is an American businessman in the construction industry, and candidate for United States Senator from Colorado. He is the Chief executive officer of a Denver-based heavy civil contracting company and the owner of the Mile High Station and Ironworks event centers in Denver. [1]

Education

O’Dea is a graduate of Mullen High School, and attended Colorado State University, where he studied construction management. After obtaining his union carpenter card, and later dropped out of school in 1983 to run his construction company full time.[2]

Political History

A first-time candidate for political office, O’Dea has focused on his background as an outsider and carpenter by trade.[3]

O’Dea’s stated platform focuses on providing “a voice for working Americans,” cutting the debt, and supporting law enforcement and the military.[4] His campaign for Senate has been endorsed by the association representing Denver Police Officers.[5]

O’Dea has previously supported both Democrats and Republican Party (United States), including Democratic United States Senator Michael Bennet, whom O’Dea is running to unseat.[6] O’Dea donated $500 to Bennet in 2010. When asked about this donation, O’Dea’s campaign released a statement saying “2010 Bennet wouldn’t recognize the 2021 Michael Bennet who votes with Joe Biden 100% of the time.”[7] O’Dea also points to the fact that Donald Trump has previously donated to Hillary Clinton before defeating her in the 2016 U.S. Presidential campaign.[8]

Since announcing his candidacy, O’Dea has focused his criticisms on Bennet’s record, including by running a campaign advertisement criticizing Bennet for having a 100% voting record aligned with President Joe Biden.[9]

Personal Life

O’Dea and his wife Celeste O’Dea are the owners of popular event venues near Mile High Stadium. One of the event centers, Ironworks, is a property that is more than 100 years old. It was originally occupied by Midwest Steel Company and produced frameworks for many of the buildings that can be seen in downtown Denver today.[10] Joe and Celeste O’Dea have one daughter.
