Joseph J. Avery is an American academic and inventor known for his research on Artificial Legal Intelligence, which stands at the intersection of law and computer science.[1] He is an assistant professor at the University of Miami, where he has appointments in the University of Miami Patti and Allan Herbert Business School, the Department of Psychology, and the Institute for Data Science and Computing.[2] He is an Affiliated Fellow at Yale Law School’s Information Society Project.[3]
Education
Avery has a JD from Columbia Law School and a PhD from Princeton.[2] He also completed a post-doctoral resident fellowship at Yale Law School.[3]
Artificial Legal Intelligence
Avery is a co-founder of Claudius Legal Intelligence,[4] a National Science Foundation-supported legal technology company that has created artificial intelligence that works on problems in law practice and legal scholarship.[5][6]
