José Antonio Moreno Rodríguez (born 14 November 1966) is a Paraguayan lawyer, academic, and arbitrator.
Biography
Moreno Rodríguez was born in Asunción in 1966. He received a baccalaureate in sience and letters at the American School of Asunción. In 1990 he graduated from the Law School of the National University of Asunción. He later earned a Master of Laws (LL.M.) from Harvard Law School in 1993, specializing in international commercial law and dispute resolution.[1]
Career
In 2014, Moreno Rodríguez co-founded Altra Legal[2], a Paraguayan law firm[3] that works in international arbitration and investment law.[4]
Moreno Rodríguez serves as an arbitrator and counsel in international arbitration proceedings. He is a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration (PCA) in The Hague and the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID).[5][6]
Moreno Rodríguez assisted Paraguay’s International Contracts Law to promote foreign investment.[7] Worked with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) on revisions to the Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration and with the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) on the Principles of International Commercial Contracts. As a member of the Organization of American States (OAS), he was part of the group that helped develop the OAS Model Law on International Commercial Contracts.[8]
Recognition
Moreno Rodríguez has been ranked by Chambers and Partners and recognized by Latin Lawyer and Who’s Who Legal.[4][9] In 2020, he was appointed president of the Inter-American Juridical Committee of the OAS.[10]
