Jonita Doda is an Indian actress. She is the recipient of numerous accolades, including the Chandigarh Icon Award alongside Legends like Milkha Singh & Yuvraj Singh and two TSR-TV9 Best Actress awards, Youth Achiever award by Deputy CM S.Sukhbir S Badal, the Reliance Big Award for Best Actress for her performance in Chak Jawana. A nomination for the Best Actress in PIIFA Awards amongst many others.

Jonita established herself as a leading lady after headlining the romantic comedy film Dil Bechara Pyar Ka maara while in Sophomore year also making her the first Chandigarh gal to lead in a Bollywood film after Poonam Dhillon. She did various ad campaigns, Documentaries & films before taking a sabbatical to finish her higher studies. Jonita made her professional debut with a South language film[1] in 2011

Early life and family

Doda was born on June 17th, in Chandigarh, a Union territory that is capital city for both the states of Punjab & Haryana to Inderjit Doda and Jaswinder Doda. She dedicated her early success to families support & upbringing. Doda is one of the 22 Royal races in the world. Her father is a Hindu Punjabi and mother a Sikh. Her upbringing is totally secular n she believes in Humanity as the greatest religion. It is out of the mixed genes of two well defined persons Jonita was born. She is an alumni of St. Stephen's School, Chandigarh|St.Stephans Her success in Bollywood, Pollywood and Kollywood is attributable to her nurturing in a well trained manner. She received no formal training in acting. She owes her success in the industry to her hard work, determination and integrity. She is known to be very . Compassionate by nature, she works closely with many social causes from an very early age. She stated in an interview, “ While in junior school our parents would take both me n brother Harsh Deep Doda to orphanages or shelter homes to celebrate major festivals[2] “.Casually she narrates being a Tennis lover & an ardent follower of Steffi Graf and Serena Williams. She did not have any filmi background, but offers start pouring in. Once she decided her parents and brother Harsh Deep wilfully supported her. She made Mumbai, India as her destination. [3]

Career

After finishing her MBA Jonita started working full time as an actor, Post Minchu (2010), which was a remake of a super hit Tamil movie. She debuted in Punjabi language opposite most popular Punjabi singer and actor Gurdas Maan|Gurdas Mann as Leading Ladies|Leading lady in Chak Jawana. Her performance was highly applauded in the Punjabi film fraternity and punjabis settled all over the globe[4]. This fetched her films like Yamley Jatt Yamley; Yaara o Dildaara|Yaara O Dildara, Chak Jawana, Patta Patta Singhan Da Vairi and many more. She emerged as a new Punjabi face after Daljit Kaur, and Preeti Sapru who dominated the Punjabi cinema|Punjabi screen for many decades. . Offers from Hindi and South Indian films also started pouring in. She did films like Mumbai Mist directed by Madhur Bhandarkar, Adhikaram ,Makal Padai , Ongala Podanum Sir|Ongala Podunum, Kirayenama and Salmon 3D (2021) Resplendent Jonita debuted as Director with her maiden film ‘Heer Unstoppable that deals with the plight of women and got her rave reviews. [5]’ which earned her International film award for Best director[6] (2017) and five official selections in various International Film Festivals. She also has a production house ‘Cinevalley Productions’. and is the co-founder of Chandigarh fashion week.

Jonita is the face of Amul Cheese among many other brands that she endorsed.

Philanthropy

She is instrumental in organising many medical camps[7] in the slums. She has participated & also organised a lot of cultural programs for the physically challenged (differently able ) . She supports quite a few organisations that fight for the cause of AIDS awareness, Drug abuse & Female foeticide.
