Jonah Midanik (born June 13, 1980) is a Canadian technology investor, entrepreneur, and venture capitalist. He is the Managing Partner of Forum Ventures (formerly known as Acceleprise) and the founder and former chief executive officer of Limelight Platform.[1]

Career

From 2012 to 2013, Midanik was Director of Marketing at Ultimate Gaming, the first legal online poker platform in the United States (created by UFC and Station Casinos). Based in Las Vegas, he led marketing efforts for Ultimate Poker, the platform’s flagship product.[2]

Limelight Platform

In 2014, Midanik founded Limelight Platform, a Toronto-based marketing automation software company focused on experiential and live marketing cloud company.[1] The company sought to streamline event execution and data collection for brands.[3]

In 2015, Limelight was accepted into Acceleprise (now Forum Ventures’ accelerator program). By early 2016, the company announced a US$3.1 million seed round and has raised $20M and landed BMW, Scotiabank, Porsche, and F1 as clients.[4][5]

Forum Ventures

In August 2018, Midanik joined Forum Ventures (formerly Acceleprise) as General Partner and Chief Operating Officer, after having participated in and led accelerator efforts for the firm.

Views on Venture Capital

Jonah Midanik has expressed caution regarding the reliance on generative artificial intelligence in mission-critical applications, emphasizing that AI systems can “straight make things up,” which raises significant liability concerns particularly in high-stakes environments. He distinguishes agentic AI; AI agents capable of taking proactive actions from traditional generative models by pointing out that while agentic AI can act autonomously, it still operates based on statistical probabilities rather than inherent truths, which contributes to a substantial trust gap in enterprise adoption.[6]

Midanik sees opportunity for venture investors in supporting startups focused on AI enablement services such as privacy, security, and compliance tooling rather than chasing foundational model development. He believes these adjacent areas are poised for growth as trust and reliability become paramount in adoption.[7]
