Johnny Rush (born 4th July 2006) is a Gibraltarian professional footballer who plays as a left-back for Burton Albion and the Gibraltar U21 national football team.[1]

Rush made his debut for the Gibraltar U21 side on 6th September 2023 in an U21 European Championship Qualifying match against Georgia, in Kutaisi, Georgia and completed the full game in a 2-0 defeat.[2]

Career

Rush was previously a member of Derby County's academy and has been capped by Gibraltar at U16 and U17 level prior to his U21 selection.[3] Rush was one of three scorers in Gibraltar U17's largest every victory (8-2) against Liechtenstein on 25th August 2022.[4] He is described as a technical modern full-back who loves to get forward in support of attacks and create opportunities.[5]

Rush faces the Netherlands, [Sweden, Georgia, [Moldova and North Macedonia in the remaining group games of the 2025 European Championship qualifiers.[6]

Personal life

Rush is the son of sports lawyer Sam Rush, and brother of International Heptathlete Ella Rush.[7]
