Johnny Chandler (born 19th July 1966 in United Kingdom), is a British DJ, Director/Senior Vice President of A&R for Universal Music Group and Founder of White Label Auction.[1] [2]

Career

1980–2019

Chandler first began DJing in the late 1980s during the heyday of acid house. He attended City, University of London from 1984- 1987 and graduated achieving a BSc (Hons). He performed alongside artists such as Paul Weller, Gilles Peterson, Norman Jay MBE, The Chemical Brothers, The Libertines & more.

In 1994, Johnny DJ'd for Primal Scream followed by the Oasis Aftershow [3] at Earls Court in 1995. In July that year he also performed alongside The Stone Roses at their Aftershow at Brixton Academy.

In 2013, Johnny was appointed Head of A&R at Universal Music Catalogue. Shortly before being promoted to SVP/Director of A&R in 2014.[4]

In 2014, Chandler was featured in the Financial Times 'Vinyl Destination'. Discussing the importance of vinyl to the music industry.

In 2019, Johnny founded the charity initiative the 'White Label Auction' [5] alongside National Album Day and major labels such as Universal Music Group (incl. Island Records & Virgin EMI Records), Sony Music & Warner Music Group to raise funds for The Brit Trust [6]. Contributors to this cause included The Beatles, Arctic Monkeys, Liam Gallagher, Ed Sheeran, Oasis (band), Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Genesis (band), The Specials, Coldplay, Sex Pistols, Mark Ronson, The Who, Lianne La Havas & many more artists.[7] [8] [9]
