John K. Bullard (born August 21, 1947) is preservationist, politician, and former mayor of New Bedford, Massachusetts. He attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he graduated in 1974 with a Master's degree in the joint study of architecture and city planning. His focus on becoming "a location specialist" on his home town of New Bedford, eventually lead to his work as the agent for Waterfront Historic Area League.[1] In April 1983, John ran unsuccessfully in a special election against city councilor Brian Lawler to complete the remainder of former Mayor John Markey's term, after the latter was appointed District Court judge. Bullard would eventually go on to defeat the incumbent Lawler in the mayoral election of 1985 and serve as mayor for three terms from 1986 to 1992.[2]
