John Edward Bryja is a notable Canadian figure in watersports and publishing. He is best known as the originator of both SBC Kiteboard and Kitesurfing Magazine.

Career

John Edward Bryja completed his education from the University of Windsor in 1992. After his graduation, he embarked on a four-year journey into the world of Olympic windsurfing, specifically competing in the Mistral One-Design races. His dedication led to a commendable 4th place finish in the men's heavyweight division at the 1994 International Mistral Class Organization (IMCO) World Championships. However, during the 1996 trials, he secured the 8th position.[1]

Transitioning into the publishing realm, Bryja took the position of Editor at Windsport magazine. In a significant turn of events in 1998, Steve Jarrett, the chief publisher of Windsport under SBC Media, entrusted Bryja with one of the pioneering inflatable kitesurfing kites and its corresponding board. He encouraged Bryja to delve into and master the emerging sport of kitesurfing.

With two years of experience under his belt, Bryja went on to establish SBC Kiteboard magazine in 2000. Extending his legacy in the domain, he introduced Kitesurfing Magazine in 2015. Subsequently, the same year, he consolidated the circulations and digital portfolios of both magazines.[2]
