John L. Arabin (28th December 1794 – March 1863) was a listed Magistrate[1] and justice of the peace for County Dublin and served as Lord Mayor of Dublin City Council from 1845 to 1846.
Life
John was a member of the Liberal Party. He was elected to Dublin City Council in October 1842, was elected lord mayor in 1844 and took office in 1845. In September 1845 he chaired a meeting[2] of the Dublin Anti-Slavery Society at which Frederick Douglass spoke while on tour in Ireland.
Death
He died at the age of 63 from an asthma attack in 1863, and was buried in Mount Jerome Cemetery, Dublin.
