Joffe Books is an independent British publishing company based in Shoreditch, London and was founded in 2014[1] by Jasper Joffe.[2]
Joffe Books' expansion began in 2019 with the acquisition of the Robert Hale[3] crime and general fiction list from the Crowood Press. In 2021, Joffe sold over 3 million books across crime, mystery, thriller, romance and historical fiction.[2], while 2022 saw the acquisition of Ostara Publishing from previous owner Andrew Cocks.[4][5] Joffe declared growth in sales, staff and output[6] and recently, their acquisition of Choc Lit, an independent publisher of romance and women’s fiction, from previous owner Lyn Vernham, [7] as well as the acquisition of Lume Books from The Daily Telegraph columnist Matthew Lynn.[8] [9] This latest acquisition sees Joffe claim the title of 'UK's largest independent publisher' - by title count. Accolades
The 2023 Independent Publishing Awards saw Joffe Books win an IPG award for the first time, taking home the PBShop Trade Publisher of the Year award.[11][12]. Previously, Joffe Books was shortlisted for the Independent Publisher of the Year at the British Book Awards in 2020, 2021 and 2022[13] and for the Diversity and Inclusivity Award at the Independent Publishers Awards 2022. The Joffe Books Prize
In 2021, Joffe partnered with author Dorothy Koomson and literary agent Susan Yearwood to launch a writing prize for unagented crime writers of colour.[15][16]. The competition saw debut author Christie J. Newport win its inaugural prize[17][18]
In 2022, the judging panel included award-winning[19] [20] author Oyinkan Braithwaite, and Ella Diamond Kahn, co-founder and partner of the Diamond Kahn & Woods Literary Agency.[21][22]
In 2024 Rupa Mahadevan won the 2024 Joffe Prize for her crime thriller, The Goddess of Death.[23]

Joy Ellis
Joy Ellis' audiobooks are narrated by Richard Armitage who also acquired film and TV rights.[24][25]. In 2021, Ellis was shortlisted for the Crime and Thriller Book of the Year award at the British Book Awards.[26]
